Race Info Quick Reference

This challenging event for individuals and relay teams will start at 8:00am
on Saturday the 3th of October 2015 in the main street of Khancoban N.S.W.

Distance 38km

Completion 105 - 210 minutes

Starting at the Khancoban General Store and heading over hilly forest trails, 4wd tracks, quiet backstreets and open paddocks in and around Khancoban township, including 20km on the privately owned property ‘Khancoban Station’ .  The route follows internal farm tracks as it passes through prime cattle country before climbing steeply onto a high ridge with two sections of single track as you ride through through scenic bushland.  A steep decent, paddock, creek and bridge crossings follow before arriving at transition below Khancoban Dam.

*The use of slick tyres is not recommended and steep hill climbing experience is necessary.

Distance 26km

Completion 90 - 150 minutes

From the transition, competitors will paddle down the swift-flowing Swampy Plains River for 11 km, to it’s confluence with the infant Murray River and another 15 km to the transition at Towong Bridge.  The characteristics of the Swampy Plains River change significantly depending on the volume of flow.  Expect 0.5m high standing waves in places and a couple of tricky ‘chutes’ to negotiate.  Kayaks and other craft, including K1, ski’s (Endorphinn etc), sea kayaks and down river racers, with trailing rudder, are recommended.

*The course is not usually suited to craft with an under stern.  Paddlers not experienced with turbulent eddies should exercise caution, particularly on corners.

Distance 25km

Completion 120 - 210 minutes

From transition near the old Towong Bridge runners will follow and should enjoy a gently undulating dirt road for 7 km that offers outstanding Snowy Mountain views over the Murray River flats towards the Main Range before a grueling and at times very steep climb, gaining 500m to the summit of Mt Elliott. They then follow the undulating Mt Elliott Ridge 4WD Track until descending into Thowgla Valley  through farmland and backroad hill climb to the finish line in Corryong's main street.

*Showers, toilets and recovery massage are available at the finish. A post race meal for competitors will be served from 3:00 pm.
